Gamesworkshop with Bitsy & Co.

Get into the world of game development!

What goes on behind the scenes of a game? How do you get from the first idea to the finished game?

The indie studio Spellgarden Games gives you an exciting overview of the digital development of games. Within three days you will get to know different areas of game development and develop your own little game. Prior knowledge is not required.

The program

Day 1 - Programming with Bitsy

Bitsy is a free online tool that can be used to create small games and interactive stories. You will learn how to create game characters and environments with just a few pixels and learn the first basics of programming games. After a brief introduction, you can get started and think about and develop your own story.

Day 2- Game design with Twine

After you got a rough overview of game development on the first day, let's take a closer look at the topic of game design. Game design is often confused with game art. In fact, this area is about thinking about the rules, puzzles, and tasks for the game. The free tool Twine teaches you how to organize ideas and mechanics for games.

Day 3 - Pixel Art

What exactly is pixel art and why is it used so often in indie games? You get an insight into the art style and create your own pixel art creations that you can integrate into your Twine game.

About the team: Spellgarden Games was founded by Kathrin, Kasimir, Zoë, and Sophie. Together they want to create cozy and quirky games and bring more diversity to the gaming industry.

There will be a lunch break each time. Please bring a snack!
