The association Haus für Film und Medien Stuttgart e.V. has a new management team. At the regular general meeting on July 6, the entire board was elected in rotation after two years.
The new chairman of the board is Jens Gutfleisch, head of the Film Commission Region Stuttgart, an institution of the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation. Astrid Beyer, Haus des Dokumentarfilms as well as DOKVILLE, and Iris Loos, vhs Stuttgart, were elected as deputies. Giovanna Thiery, director of Stuttgarter Filmwinter and Wand 5 e.V., and Daniel Danzer, Stuttgarter Jugendhaus gGmbH, serve as assessors. Jens Gutfleisch, Iris Loos and Daniel Danzer were already members of the board before the election.
The previous chairperson of the board, Prof. Dr. Barbara Bader, Rector of the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, will become the new Rector of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts on December 1, 2022 and will therefore leave Stuttgart and our association. The previous assessor Prof. Ulrich Wegenast was also bid farewell; he will leave the Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH on September 14, 2022 and will also take on new professional challenges.
We wish them both all the best for their new professions and look back on two successful years with very fruitful work in a great team.
Jens Gutfleisch is pleased about the unanimous vote of the members for all newly elected and re-elected board members. With a strong, regionally and internationally well-connected team at his side, reflecting the diversity of the 24 member institutions, he looks forward to the coming months.
Our former board chairman Markus Merz was elected as the association's first honorary member during the general meeting. We are deeply indebted to Markus Merz as a driving force and "spiritual father" for his many years of successful commitment and very much welcome the fact that he will continue to belong to the association and contribute his expertise.
After the Stuttgart City Council decided in February of this year on the Europe-wide structural engineering competition for the House of Film and Media, work is now being done concretely and together with the state capital Stuttgart, the members and external specialist companies on the realization of the house. The opening is planned for 2027 on the site of the Breuninger parking garage in Esslinger Straße.
