In Parabeton - Pier Luigi Nervi and Roman Concrete (D 2012), Heinz Emigholz combines 17 buildings by the Italian master builder Pier Luigi Nervi (1891-1979) that are still preserved in Italy and France in chronological order with film studies of ancient buildings made of Roman concrete from the first century after Christ.
Nervi graduated as an engineer in 1913 and throughout his life saw himself as a structural engineer and not as an architect. As the inventor of style-defining constructions, he is the grand master of concrete construction and understood building construction as art and science. Since the early 1930s he has designed and built extreme roof and dome constructions and supporting structures made of concrete for large buildings.
